The inspiration for this room came in December of 2010, when we had two ladies with breast cancer actively dying at Southampton Hospital. We visited these women and wished we could have made their final days more comfortable - like we did for our friend, Lucia. Lucia spent her last days at the Hospice Inn in Huntington. The rooms at the Hospice Inn are much more comfortable than a typical hospital room and also provide more amenities for family and loved ones. Unfortunately, there is no such facility or anything similar out on the East End of Long Island.
The room will primarily be used by breast cancer patients that are going through difficult surgeries, palliative care and/or end-of-life services. Our goal is to have Lucia’s Room decorated and equipped with all that is needed to create a peaceful and serene atmosphere for patients and their visitors.
